Diet Reviews: The Jenny Craig Diet -- How Does The Jenny Craig Diet Work

Here is my first diet review post. The diet that will be reviewed today is the popular Jenny Craig diet. First I will be going over how the Jenny Craig diet works, and then I will analyze whether or not the Jenny Craig diet is worth the costIn the mid 1980's Jenny Craig put together a weight loss regimen that eventually became her weight loss company. This diet has since skyrocketed in popularity and the weight loss business has turned into a booming industry.

The Jenny Craig diet's main draws are the frozen meals that get delivered to your door and the personal consultant and advice you get. What happens is your consultant will create a meal plan based on how many calories you need and then you will get the right frozen meals. This actually works very well because many people lack the knowledge and dedication to form and stick to a good, strict diet. The Jenny Craig company also advises that people trying to lose weight with there system do a good amount of exercise every day. This makes perfect sense and any diet plan claiming otherwise should immediately raise red flags in your head. After several weeks of strictly eating the Jenny Craig meals, the users then transition and start to plan there own meals with the help of their weight loss consultant. This is so that they don't become dependent on the pre-packaged meals and they learn to control portion sizes and select healthy foods so that they can live a healthy lifestyle. Depending on the membership level, the person would start going in for monthly checkups after they reach their target weight to make sure they are maintaining healthy eating habits and were not just looking to lose weight quickly.

So that is how the Jenny Craig diet works. Is Jenny Craig good or bad for you. This diet is based on solid foundations and system is proven to work. However, is it worth the cost. That is what I will be addressing the next post.

Exercises That Will Help You Lose Weight Quickly

The two components of burning fat and losing weight are diet and exercise. This makes sense because the simple fact is you have to use up more calories than you take in to lose weight. The two ways of doing this are taking in less calories than you normally do through a new diet, or burning more calories than you usually do through more exercise. Logically then, the best and quickest results would come through a combination of both. This article will focus on exercises that will help you lose weight quickly.

Cardio is the most effective type of exercise for losing weight. While I highly recommend resistance training while trying to lose weight to prevent muscle catabolism and ensure fat is being burned, it just does not burn enough calories to help with weight loss. Also exercises that target the midsection or other trouble areas do not help to burn fat there. It is impossible to "spot reduce." The best way to burn belly fat or troublesome thigh fat is to losefat all over through healthy diet and exercise.

The best type of cardio in my opinion is HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training. In HIIT, one starts with a low intensity warmup, for instance a jog. Then you sprint for a short interval such as 20-30 seconds. Then you jog for around 30 seconds. Repeat the cycle of high and low intensities until you can't go on any longer. Even in the most well conditioned athletes this shouldnt be more than 15 minutes.

There are a few reasons I like HIIT over traditional, long, low intensity cardio for weight loss.
  • It is much quicker and less boring. A session is 15 minutes or less and its high intense enough to keep you interested unlike jogging hours at a time.
  • There are many options. Using the cycling of intensities, you can run, bike, or even jumprope and lose weight efficiently.
  • It boosts your metabolism throughout the day. Here's the most important one. While long, low intensity cardio usually burns more fat during the actual exercise itself, HIIT boosts your metabolism so you will be burning fat all day long.

Lose weight by eating? Sounds crazy right? The key to succeeding with this is knowing what to eat and when to eat it. Starving yourself is not healthy and is actually not helpful in losing weight. Once you eventually eat, and you will have to, your body will hold on to every calorie and store as much of it as fat as it can. The key to losing weight quickly and in the long term lies in proper eating habits and dedication

Here are some tips to get you started:
  • Eat 6 small meals a day. That's right. Eating more often than you normally do and in smaller portions boosts your metabolism and leaves you feeling less hungry thanusual.
  • Drink only water. Cutting out soda and other sugary drinks from your diet has numerous health benefits and almost immediately affects your weight loss
  • Stay away from trans fat and proccessed foods. This does not mean to stay away from all fats. Natural dietary fat is perfectly healthy and required. Trans fat, however, is a leading causer of heart disease and has no known benefits.
  • Make sure you have a balanced diet. This means you are taking in the proper amounts of carbs, fats, and protein.
  • Exercise often. Here's the place where "lose weight fast" programs often lose people, but this is key to losing fat and weight. I will be writing a post on exercise soon so be sure to check it out.
